Every great party needs a theme. It’s a way to tie together the decorations, invitations, food, gift bags, and festivities. Though many great ideas are out there, it can be hard to find a theme that fits your child’s personality and style. If you’ve got a little trendsetter under your roof, consider one of these popular birthday themes for 2020!
Aloha
No matter what part of the world you live in or what the weather is like, you can always bring the surf and sand to your venue by having an Aloha-themed party. Using pineapples, coconuts, palm leaves, grass skirts, and flamingos, you can create colorful décor and design a menu that will make guests feel like they are in a tropical paradise. You can welcome your partygoers by placing a lei around their neck. They’ll be thrilled when you hand them a non-alcoholic pina colada in a pineapple-shaped cup (especially when it’s garnished with a classic, Hawaiian umbrella). You can play luau-style music and send kiddos home with a giant (or mini) blow-up flamingo. Click here or here to see some Aloha-themed party pictures for inspiration.
Superheroes
With new superhero movies coming out every year, many kids have a favorite protagonist (or antagonist) that they look up to. Using a general hero theme or focusing on a specific character or franchise is a great way to add style to your child’s party. Many local bakeries offer cakes or treats with hero designs and decorations. Classic games can be spruced up to be more action-packed (like changing “Cops and Robbers” to “Heroes and Villains”). You can even make the party more low-key by just turning on the movie for the kids to watch after you’ve opened presents and eaten cake. And of course, if you can get your hands on some Iron Man gloves and Spider-Man masks, kids can have fun playing pretend as their favorite heroes—and they’ll run off that crazy, cake-fueled sugar rush!
Escape Room
If the idea of having 20 kids at your house overwhelms you, an escape room could be a great alternative. Taking the kids to a facility with a pre-planned game is exciting, fun, and easy. They’ll have a blast discovering clues and solving the puzzles. Plus, if the group is too big to fit in one room, you can schedule separate rooms or separates times, and take the kiddos who aren’t puzzling over locks for ice cream or other treats!
If you don’t want to worry about cost, there are many escape room kits that you can purchase online and use at home. If your child loves animals, nature, or wizards and witches, you’re bound to find a theme that suits their interests, as well as puzzles that match their skill levels! Put on a fun mystery movie when they’ve successfully escaped and you have yourself a fantastic party!
